Any one listening to the national address by PM Modi will clearly see the message he is trying to convey to the countrymen about the national heroes. He is clearly giving the message that the dominance of Nehru and Congress in the entire freedom struggle discourse has changed and he is going to accord appropriate place to each and everyone from every corner of the country.
His reverence started with Mahatma Gandhi Netaji Bose, Ambedkar and Savarkar as the first line of people to be mentioned. After that he went back in history to remember people like Mangal Pandey, Tatya Tope to Bhagat Singh, Asfaqullah khan and Ramprasad Bismil. He moved to mention the women freedom fighter and then came to mention the makers of post independence India starting from Dr Rajendra Prasad and Nehru and Patel. His choice of order is brilliantly thought through – no deifying anyone and not ignoring anyone.
In the Amrit Mahotsav, it is also important that the historical mis-alignments are corrected.
