Muhammad bin Tughlaq (r. 1325–1351), the Sultan of Delhi from the Tughlaq dynasty, is infamous in Indian history for his ambitious but megalomaniac projects that ultimately failed due to stupidity no planning and flawed execution. His reign is often studied for its administrative blunders, which, despite being rooted in innovative thinking, led to instability and unrest. If I replace the name of Muhammad bin Tughlaq with the name Donald Trump (20245- 2029) , rest of the statement will hold good.

Let us compare the events keeping in mind that Trump is still 3.5 years to go unless something drastic happens.

1. Transfer of Capital from Delhi to Daulatabad

Whose Objective was to relocate the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad (1500 km to south) to better control the empire lead to Forced migration of big Muslim population of Delhi causing immense suffering, Widespread deaths, logistical chaos, and eventual return to Delhi due to unmanageable governance from Daulatabad.

Trump wants to relocate a million Gazans so Arabian heaven to give them peace and prosperity once Gaza becomes the Arabian Oasis which is resulting in death, destruction and chaos.

2. Introduction of Token Currency to Solve the financial crisis by issuing brass and copper coins of the same value as gold and silver without realizing that Gold and Copper can not be equated. It lead to massive counterfeiting, Collapse of the economy, loss of public trust, and the need to withdraw the entire currency.

Trump is using Cryptocurrency and Trump meme coins to promote national interest. He has stabilized relationship with Pakistan because his son-in-law has set up a cryptocurrency partnership in Pakistan. His social media platform TruthSocial is promoting Trump coins.

3. Failed Expeditions and Military Campaigns In Kashmir & Khurasan even when his economy was in poor condition. Resulting Military losses drained the treasury and demoralized the army.

Recent military mishaps of Trump in Yemen when the Houthi militants damaged the American military aircraft’s was a wake up call for the Americans. The recent double game that Trump played with India in Pakistan and the way American Military was defeated in Afghanistan is another such example how US military escapades have debilitated its economic might.

His utterances to buy Iceland, annex Canada, vacate Gaza have been fits of random utterances of global scale.

A plane gifted to Trump by Qatar to buy his support was never-seen-before Bribery of international order.

4, Excessive Taxation in Doab Region

Increase revenue through heavy taxation in the fertile Ganga-Yamuna Doab even during famine without understanding ground conditions. Resulted in Widespread peasant revolts, starvation, and migration.

Trump ha considered tariff and trade as the only instrument of governance, international diplomacy and international security. He imposed multiple tariff multiple times than the existing rates for most of the countries in the world. He has negotiated trade deals with Syria and accepted the Terrorist government in Lebanon in the name of Tariff. He is negotiating trade deals with Ukraine which is in the midst of war and trying to get a truce in war using trade and tariff. People are saying he may end up having a trade deal with Hamas soon.

Apple, Amazon and Walmart are only few global companies which are on the verge of either closing some operations or passing their tariff burden to the people. Several companies are already questioning the irrational tariff regimes.

5. Frequent Changes in Policies

His tendency to change decisions quickly and without consultation confused both the nobility and the public which created administrative instability and loss of confidence in the sultan’s leadership

Trump has only policy that he has no policy. He has been changing his policies by days if not by hours. The joke goes in Washington on a daily basis to predict the number of executive orders Trump will sign on that day. Executive orders have become joke of the nation.

While Muhammad bin Tughlaq was visionary and intellectually inclined, Trump has no such credit to his character. Tughlaq’s ambitions lacked practical grounding, while Trumps ambition lacks common sense. Tughlaq’s stupidity lead to economic decline, Trumps quixotic decisions are causing global economic chaos and geopolitical nightmare for US.

It will not be too far to say that Trump is Tughlaq reincarnate after a gap of almost 700 years.
