We have seen a surprising heart change from the Muslim leadership during operation Sindoor. The leadership has by and large supported the government in their efforts and also rebuked Pakistan vehemently for the terrorist act at Pahalgam. It is not only the political leadership but the religious leadership which includes Imams and clergies who have supported the government without any condition. Muslim community by and large always had been supportive of the larger national agenda and debate but the Muslims leadership – both the political leadership as well as the religious leadership have always tried to take a hardline stand mostly to create conserve and reap their different identity for their respective political and religious benefits.

This time the fact that both the political and religious leadership has supported the government unconditionally is a very positive sign and this bode well for future community integration in the national debate.

It must be noted that such national level support had always had a condition attached to it. Every time such unity of purpose has been displayed, the Muslim community leadership have extracted their own benefits after the event. The events of post Khilafat are reminder of the fact. Post 1971 when Indira Gandhi made government with the left support , they asked their agenda to be shoved through the national polity and the big changes in educational changed my were brought in the name of secularism. The word “secular” inserted in the constitution through that.

Post 1991 when the minority Congress government was supported by left and other Muslim parties, they asked for the amendments in Waqf act and the enactment of Places of worship act as their demand.

Manmohan singh also had to give in to the demands of when he amended the Waqf act and gave away prime properties under the Waqf by user demands

We have to keep a watch on what kind of demand Mr Owaisi puts in front of the national government when he is back from his global tour. He is doing beyond extraordinarily job as a leader of the delegation

What I am writing is my skepticism based on the past howler I am hopeful that Muslim leaderships have also realized that Pakistan is a failed state and not something which will rally the Indian aspirational Muslims with them. They have been increasingly seeing that educated and aspirational Muslims are moving away from them and the Indian economic will being more and more Muslims in that forward thinking category.

Let us just hope that Operatiin Sindoor brings a new era of Hindu Muslim Integration in the country.
